Event Horizon Hellraiser Connection

Mar 10, Katherine rated it really liked it. I enjoyed this one better. It has a wider variety of characters and more planning of operations.

Of course it ends with a to-be-continued. So on to number 3. Apr 20, Lynn Hallbrooks rated it it was amazing. I found myself joining Mr.

In exchange he gifted me and I'm sure others this story. The opinions expressed below are in no way influenced by this and are my honest thoughts.

This is book is a mixture of military and post-apocalypse Alex Fletcher, U. Marine veteran, set out to get his son from Boston and bring him home.

This was a difficult task considering the chaos t I previously read and enjoyed The Jakarta Pandemic the prequel to the Perseid Collapse series.

This was a difficult task considering the chaos that ensued after the event that has left America without electricity and minimal working vehicles.

Nevertheless he is driven to succeed at any and all cost at bringing his boy home alive. Will father and son reunite?

If they do what is in store for them and the rest of Alex's family? I enjoyed this story so much it was hard to put down to do the things I had to do.

Having read the previous two books in this series, I had already gotten to know the main characters. I truly believe Mr.

Konkoly does a great job of sharing the thoughts and reasons behind the decisions that they make. Overall the characters believe that family comes first and must be protected at all cost.

Warning: This book is for Mature Audiences due to graphic violence, adult language, and a hint of sexual situations.

Mar 09, Ashley O'Leary rated it it was amazing. Nice work This book wraps up the first two nicely. The way the author slowly shows fletchers experience in the marines makes what he does more believable.

The antagonist however is a tiny bit far fetched. Especially the amount of people he can recruit mere moments after a savage killing.

All in all this is a fun series. I will read the next one. Mar 25, Mel rated it it was amazing Shelves: dystopian. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

This series just keeps getting better. I even believe the author is hitting his stride as the writing keeps getting better with each book.

It has everything I'm along for the ride now. Nov 05, Susan rated it really liked it. Event Horizon is the second book in the Perseid Collapse series.

I've read other books by this author, including the first book in the series, and was looking forward to reading this book.

This story is violent and not for sensitive readers. While you can read this as a standalone, I don't recommend that as you will be confused with what is going on.

Not only does Event Horizon start right where Perseid Collapse ended, it also ends in a cliffhanger for the next book. The book blurb adequately des Event Horizon is the second book in the Perseid Collapse series.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here.

The author did a good job of summarizing the first book for new readers to give them a better understanding of the main characters and settings in the series.

The series has well developed characters. There is a lot going on that keeps you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next.

While the first book and storyline kept me riveted, this one did not until the last few chapters. The story starts out with fast paced action and that continues throughout the book.

It is amazing how much story, details, and action the author packs into the book Along the way there are some unexpected surprises as well.

The Perseid Collapse is a series definitely worth reading. And I will read the next book. Dec 16, John Podlaski rated it really liked it. Event Horizon picks up exactly where book one, The Perseid Collapse, ended.

As with book 1, this book spends too much time at planning what should happen instead of allowing the story to be told; almost repetitive in places which seems to bog the story down.

The ending is somewhat complete as the battle at Alex Father's farm concludes against the local militia more of a street gang - its leader reminds me of Neegan in the Walking Dead TV series and doesn't just end in a major cliff-hanger.

However, I wouldn't recommend that readers read this without having read book one in the series. Readers also discover that the US military in the area is led by Alex's former commander in Iraq, and as a condition of helping Alex rescue the kids from the college, he has to accept reactivation at his former rank of Captain.

True to his word, the military unit assists during the rescue of the kids and at the farm battle - Now Alex must return the favor and take over a military battalion in a different state; a mission that will be covered in the next book.

I am taking a break from this series and haven't decided yet if I'll return. I would like to see how the series ends and might have to bite the bullet down the road.

Nov 22, Rachael Ashak-Benson rated it it was amazing. Keeps getting better!! Best book in series yet!! So completely enjoyable in every way. Non-stop action from start to finish.

Steven Konkoly is one of the top fiction writers out there today, and not just in the apocalypse genre.

The scenes within this story are so rich in depth and detail, you feel like you are there. The characters remain wonderfully believable and diverse.

Some Keeps getting better!! Some lovable, strong, annoying, quirky, strong in character, mind and body, and others equally weak, and those that are just pure bad to the bone.

I adore the marines. All of them. The dialogue and mannerisms. Often with humor. I could go on. This book especially has been a fantastic read!

Feb 20, Kris Gallagher rated it really liked it. Now that I've finished the tale started in the first book, it's clear that the author is creating an ex-military one-man army along the lines of Jack Ryan or Jack Reacher.

This book has less gore than the first one, but still plenty of violence as the hero and his band fight their way back to Maine. The weapons lists and home defense lists are still pretty long, but they don't bog the book down as badly as the first one.

There is more closure at the end of this book, but major threats are still Now that I've finished the tale started in the first book, it's clear that the author is creating an ex-military one-man army along the lines of Jack Ryan or Jack Reacher.

There is more closure at the end of this book, but major threats are still on the horizon. There continues to be a significant indictment of local militias and how, whether they are well-intentioned or basically criminal, they can lead to far more bloodshed than if the established authorities handled things.

Given my growing awareness of how many people think our own government is "coming for us," it's a disconcerting read these days. Feb 02, James J.

Seals Jr rated it it was amazing. The action just keeps on running, making you feel as though you were there for every thrilling minute of action. He deftly paints the drama making you feel as though you had personally experienced every riveting minute of the plot.

Konkoly has that rare ability to weave the action sequences flawlessly, keeping everything grounded in the realm of plausibility.

If you haven't experienced Konkoly's works, shame on you. Get his books and get hooked on his prose today. Oct 04, Leslie Belden rated it it was amazing.

One of the best SHTF novels ever written. The dad, who is the main character, is the perfect ex-Marine and the perfect husband and father, a Special Ops veteran who gets it done.

His family, his neighbors and their families must manage to rescue two college students and their young children still at home, and make it to safety.

Once I opened it, I could not put it down. If you get this book, order the next one In the series at the same time. Jun 24, Jo-ann rated it it was amazing.

Rescue, and fight for survival Alex and his friends along with the Marines have rescued their college children from Boston.

That is if they survive the Maine Liberty Militia attack. Great reading with attention grabber about possible down to Earth futuristic scenarios.

Full suspense and action. Jo-Ann Doyle. Jan 15, T rated it really liked it. Still liking the series after the second novel.

Excellent implementation of a 'villian' and the author does a great job of making you hate them. Feels like the novel is slowly losing realism points and military actions seem far fetched.

It's a bit predictable and much more goes in the main characters favor than would ever really occur Tough to fathom what it would be like in big cities during such an event.

Jul 16, James Cozzone rated it liked it. Dialogue was more contrived in this one. Especially when he continued the scene in the dorm room, the main character early on in the book had a very immature way of speaking when talking to the dorm kids.

It just seemed unrealistic. Further, I felt like the some parts were poorly drafted. I found it difficult to imagine both the layout of the buildings and the fight scenes.

It was as if he skipped parts. Enjoyable read once you get past that. Nov 04, Barbara "Cookie" Serfaty Williams rated it it was amazing.

It took me back to my military days. Fight scenes were great and quite realistic. Great story, finding the children , reaction of the non-combatants was realistic.

Hard to put it down!!!!! The characters are everyday people some with military training but for the most part your next door neighbor.

People protecting their families, in a troubled time. I would recommend this series to anyone who is interested in reading a thriller with a touch of military action involved.

Sep 01, Christina Behlke rated it it was amazing. Action-packed book that keeps you engaged, and definitely not for the faint of heart. I would not suggest reading this one as a standalone book.

It picks up immediately where the previous book left off. It was neat to hear more from Ryan's Alex's son's perspective.

Another cliffhanger - good thing I have the box set! Oct 17, Les Mackay rated it it was amazing.

Rip roaring read Not since reading the saga of the Courtney's when a teenager have I enjoyed such a fast paced, exciting story, I felt like a member of Alexs' group, being taken from one tight situation to another, great read, just finished book 5 , I've not been engrossed in a story like that for years, hopefully there's more to come from Alex and his extended family.

May 30, Kevin rated it it was amazing. This is not a new series, but Perseid Collapse is one of the best, and the gems are written by Konkoly.

Even Horizon takes the intense personal story and reveals the layers of the global onion in blazing detail.

Jul 06, Christine Bishop rated it it was amazing. I love this series! Anderson notes that at two hours and 10 minutes, it was overly long, with weak directing and acting that could have used another editing pass, unfinished special effects, and a poor sound mix.

In test screenings , the cut was poorly received. There were complaints about the extreme amount of gore, [7] and Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt claim members of the test audience fainted during the screening.

Anderson believes that while his first cut was justifiably considered too long, Paramount forced him to make a cut that was instead too short, and that the film would benefit by the restoration of around 10 minutes of footage, including some of the deleted gore.

After the initial DVD release became a surprise hit, the studio and Anderson became interested in assembling a director's cut , but they quickly discovered that the excised footage had not been carefully stored and much of it had gone missing.

The plan to assemble a director's cut was abandoned and instead a special-edition two-DVD set was released, featuring one deleted scene, two extended scenes, and a few shots of deleted material in the included making-of featurette.

The footage is of " video " quality. The "bloody orgy" video was also longer. As Anderson was sometimes too busy filming other scenes, second-unit director Vadim Jean filmed some parts of this scene.

The film's final ending was a combination of two unused alternate endings that were filmed. One did not have a jump scare at the end when the last two survivors are found by another rescue crew and Starck hallucinates that she sees Weir, although there was a similar version of the scene included in this ending where she hears screams of Event Horizon crew and screams in fear before Cooper wakes her up.

This was the original ending of the film included in the shooting script. He responded "never", explaining that much of it is gone forever. Anderson said that after finishing Resident Evil: Retribution , he planned to watch it for the first time since assembling the film.

Asked about the VHS tape, he said neither he, nor Levin, had watched it yet, as Levin moved to Spain; however, he was still excited about watching it at some point.

Michael Kamen was hired to compose the score for the film. Director Paul W. Anderson , a fan of hybrid genre music, invited the electronic dance music duo Orbital to collaborate with Kamen and to provide synthesizing sounds for the film's unsettling atmosphere.

A soundtrack album was released which edited various cues from the score into four tracks of approximately ten minutes.

Event Horizon was released on August 15, and was a box office failure. Roger Ebert gave the film two stars out of four, noting the opening portion as being particularly well-crafted, and commended its atmosphere.

However, Ebert went on to state that the film never managed to become the intense, thought-provoking experience it wanted to be.

The film had some early supporters, with Empire magazine awarding Event Horizon a 3 out of 5 stars rating, reporting: "That the film never fulfils its promise is down to its over reliance on horror vagaries in a precision-built sci-fi milieu, ultimately leaving too many unanswered queries.

A sharper script and a more credible solution could have turned this impressive hokum into a force to be reckoned with". There are certainly plenty of jumps on offer as a possessed ship torments and tortures any humans it can find.

Well worth a look. In August , it was reported that Paramount Television and Amazon Studios were developing a television series based on Event Horizon.

Horror filmmaker Adam Wingard is set to executive produce and possibly direct the series. Lawrence Gordon and Lloyd Levin, who produced the original film, are also involved.
